Sterling Graham Honored As PCCH May Employee of the Month

Parmer County Community Hospital is pleased to announce Sterling Graham as the May employee of the month.

Graham has been employed by the hospital for more than 20 years.  He was Director of maintenance for PCCH from Sept. 1986 until Oct. 2006.  He continues to work in the maintenance department, and is genuinely loved and adored by everyone at PCCH.

Graham was nominated by Kenda Dunnam.  In her letter she wrote, “Sterling has always done his job with an exceptional attitude, but this month probably takes the cake.  He has a smile on his face every day, has not complained, been here to do his job, and done it all in the worst time of his life…he is amazing and I have learned so much from watching him and his attitude.”

Graham is a humble man and prefers not to focus on himself.  In a recent conversation with a coworker, he said it would be hard to let other people wait on him.  This is part of what makes Graham so great; his desire to focus on what he can do for others.

Lance Gatlin, PCCH Administrator says, “Sterling is an absolute joy to have on our staff team.  He is a model of consistency, reliability and hard work, but what strikes me the most about Sterling, above all other things, are his unwavering cheerful attitude and his desire to serve others.  He is an extraordinary person.”

Graham is not a person who performed one great act of heroism.  Graham is an everyday hero, a selfless person who does whatever he can to improve the lives of everyone around him.  The following statements are his coworkers sharing some of their thoughts about Graham.

Geneva Vargas in dietary shared, “Sterling would come when it snowed and take out our trash.  He also used to go get our groceries, and always with a happy heart.”

Norma Torres says, “When I was an aid, we had a terrible rainstorm.  This whole side of town was blacked out.  Sterling came out at 2:30 a.m. and kicked on the generators.  He never complained, was just happy to get out of bed and do it.”

Criselda Mendoza shares a particularly memorable story:
“I had a little bitty desk that was too small for me.  It was very uncomfortable and even left bruises on my knees.  One day he saw how uncomfortable I was, and he decided then and there to get me a new desk.  He did not ask permission, just saw my need and did what he thought was right.  He went out on a limb to bring me some comfort, even if it meant getting in trouble.  That was special; I’ll always remember that.”

Dunnam attends the church where Graham is an Elder.  “He’s always been one of those people that is always there in the background, that you know you can lean on, and is never there for the glory, only for the joy of serving others.”

Please join us in congratulating Sterling Graham for receiving the PCCH Employee of the Month Award.
